About Us

Our Managing Director, Tony Townshend, founded Harwood Property Services in 1988. For some years, Tony worked as General Services Manager for the investment bank Merrill Lynch in the City. He became very aware of the problems facing Facilities Managers when appointing cleaning contractors. Because of his experience of working ‘on the other side of the fence’, we feel more able to look at what’s required by a cleaning company through clients’ eyes. This enables us to provide a professional service that raises the standards of contract cleaning through quality supervision and enlightened management.

Our Sales Director is Pamela Townshend. She was for many years head of City sales for a large vending company and joined Harwood Property Services in 1991. Her customer-focused background is vital in understanding client needs and ensuring the best possible service. Most importantly, our organisation is a family concern and our commitment to you is total.

Memberships and accreditations

The British Institute of Cleaning Science
We have been members of The British Institute of Cleaning Science for many years and have access to all the latest advice and technology for the cleaning industry through this association.

SAFE Contractor
Also, we have adopted the SAFEcontractor scheme.  International safety, health and environmental risk management specialists The National Britannia Group operate SAFEcontractor. We believe that major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies.

Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standards are included on a database which enables organisations to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. 

Peninsula Employer of Excellence
We have been awarded the Peninsula Employer of Excellence Accreditation from employment law specialists Peninsula Business Services. This organisation allows us to focus on our business priorities while they provide us with advice on employment law. They ensure that we have up to date contracts of employment and policies to support them.  We also have access to a 24 hour Advice Service.
